THE PEACE OF THE
PASSING YEARS
There comes a time in life when we realize that growing older is not a
decline but a graceful unfolding. The body may slow up, but awareness
expands, bringing a deep peace within. Age ceases to define us, becoming
a soft background hum to wisdom, compassion and humour.
With the passing years, we see through so much of the illusion. The need
to prove ourselves or impress others fades away. The ego grows quieter,
replaced by a gentle knowing that we are enough. There is great freedom
and no need to be right; a freedom to laugh at life, to wear what we
like, to speak our truth kindly and express what lives in our heart with
ease and warmth. We find we are able to say what once may have felt
awkward or self-consciousness; perhaps to offer compliments,
appreciation or sharing an insight that now flows easily without the
clutter of ego.
Many of us have stepped off the treadmill we once ran so faithfully, the
one society said we must stay on to matter or succeed. Now, with more
space and time, we can live each day as it feels right in the moment,
spontaneous, simple, and deeply fulfilling. We have come to treasure the
quiet sacred moments where the heart meets magic, beauty, and stillness.
Every person carries wisdom born of their unique story. Every
experience, even the hard ones, has shaped an inner strength and
understanding that no book could ever teach. We have learned that
integrity, promises, fairness, and respect are not old-fashioned values
but timeless foundations of peace. We see life reflects our inner state,
and challenges are mirrors inviting growth. We learned that
communication and honesty bring clarity that dissolves confusion, and
that surrendering our expectations allows life’s divine order to unfold
in perfect timing. That wisdom is a precious quality and can inspire
younger generations and gently guide others through their own
challenges.
We recall with joy, precious moments that remain imbedded in memory of a
life shared with those we love. The times we rolled on the floor in
laughter, words uttered by children that came out of nowhere,
communication that surpassed words, intimate heart to heart soul
connections with friends, lovers, partners, family and those paused
moments of awareness of some connection to strangers passing by.
Perhaps having the good fortune
to travel, we experienced the richness of many traditions and customs
that helped us dissolve bridges of separation and replace it with
tolerance, compassion and love.
There is a gentle relaxation and inner joy in the unhurried rhythm of
life; in the quiet of a morning before the world awakens; the magical
changes in dawns that bring warmth in a rising sun; the slow drift of
clouds; savouring tea or coffee sitting in a lovingly created garden;
absorbed in nature’s display of calm or wild energy of an ocean; music
that stirs loving memories of the heart; the excitement of dog
anticipating a walking adventure; the laughter of children at play;
feeling the special connection of beloved pets; the deepening blaze of
colours from a setting sun; a star-studded night sky and appreciation of
the stillness of evening when everything feels complete. Gratitude
deepens and becomes an atmosphere of being, a way of seeing beauty in
everything and everyone.
Maybe, at last, we have come home to ourselves, to the quiet truth of
who we have always been, beneath all striving and pretending. We have
come home to the heart’s simplicity, to a peace that needs no reason or
explanation.
Love and gratitude,
